Mission Inn Hotel & Spa

Opened in 1876 as a boarding house by Frank Miller and expanded with a Mission-Revival wing in 1903, the Mission Inn became the nation's largest building in that architectural style.

In 1876, Frank Miller opened a modest adobe boarding house in downtown Riverside. Over decades, he expanded the property into a full-service hotel, most dramatically in 1903 when the Mission Wing opened, featuring Mission-Revival architecture inspired by more than twenty California missions. The building's towering domes, sweeping archways, and arcaded corridors drew visitors from across the country. Four distinct wings—Mission, Cloister, Spanish, and Rotunda (completed 1931)—grew to encompass an entire city block, making it the largest Mission Revival–style building ever constructed in the United States.

The Mission Inn's physical presence is monumental: 238 individually designed guest rooms and suites, expansive event spaces, six restaurants and lounges, a full-service spa, and courtyards that invite leisurely exploration. One of its most distinctive features is the bell dating to 1247—among the oldest in Christendom—which hangs in the building as a historical artifact. The hotel earned AAA Four Diamond status and has hosted ten U.S. Presidents, along with luminaries like Amelia Earhart and Albert Einstein, making it a landmark of both local and national significance.

For Riverside families, the Mission Inn represents the kind of destination that draws visitors from across the country—the place where traditions happen, where a special evening marks a milestone, where memories accumulate. That permanence—a place built to last, maintained and cared for across generations—is what families aim for in their own lives. A life insurance policy that protects a spouse's ability to stay in a home, to manage the household, or to pursue education is choosing the same path: building something stable for the years that matter most.
